While they look like a gas operated 1100, underneath they are basically the long successful Browning recoil operated design.This is great find, it's a Remington Sportsman 48, 12 gauge, shotgun. It has a 30" barrel, with some blueing loss, and a fixed poly choke. There is wear as would be expected on a gun of this age, both to the wood stock and forend. The Sportsman 48 was produced between 1949 and 1960. As far as removing the pin, yes after it's driven down, you should be able to remove the firing pin. Mine was to long and bottoming out on the slide before it cleared the bolt. As far as it being the same bolt as the 1100 and 870 there are some similarities, but it's not the same.
