Need help! I have a 2016 Durango RT hemi with 67,000 miles. It is throwing a code for the fan relay, I have changed both relays and thermostat. Problem: Check engine will kick on with the code for the fan relay p0480.. It can sit for 2 minutes and it will start over heating, I can reset the check engine light and let it sit and it wont over heat???Jun 4, 2007 · Put a meter on the battery terminals. The voltage should read 12 or more volts. Now turn the key. If the battery voltage drops substianlly lower (10, 9, 8 volts), then the solenoid is probably OK and your battery's bad (even if it's a new battery) (or something's pulling the battery down (bad starter winding)). Most of the time it will crank for about 20-30 seconds then start. Occasionally it will crank for half a second then shut off and when it does this it always starts right up as normal. A few seconds pass and multiple warnings start and a message displays saying vehicle is shutting down, pull over and stop. Once stopped the Durango basically goes none responsive and finally dies and looses all aux power. Dealer replaced Aux Battery & alternator. Dec-2020, Same as above.

I am pretty handy but have never owned or worked on Dodge's let alone a 5.7L hemi. I'm going to start with the basics checking/replacing plugs, wires, fuel filter. etc.

Simply try the ideal starting procedure (<5 seconds crank), pull a spark plug and check for fuel. If the plug is wet then you have fuel but either no spark or no compression. The problem is the coil has intermittent problems when hot and a voltage test will not identify it when cold. So I went and bought two OEM coil packs from the dealer and while there a service tech said coil packs 7 & 8 are common to go as water tends to drip on them more for the challengers due to the hood vents.
