Hi everyone! I’m a PGY2 and want to go into heme-onc. I just became CITI certified and am waiting to hear back from mentors regarding possible research opportunities. In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate any advice regarding how I should go about my PGY2 year to increase my chances at a fellowship.

In general Rad-Onc tends to be much better in lifestyle. this is highly decisive. Rad onc is somewhate more technical related, I think. Dec 26, 2023 · Matching into Heme-Onc as an international grad is an extremely uphill battle. Most likely, the IM PD you're referring to is probably a PD of a random community hospital. Matching into heme-onc from a community IM program is also an extremely uphill battle. Heme/onc less competitive for IMGs than GI. But still no guarantees for IMGs. See NRMP for the data. For example, here are 2017 match rates from NRMP (and "total" includes US MDs, DOs, US IMGs, and IMGs, so the match rates are presumably even lower for IMGs only): Gastroenterology. -U.S. Grads 319/377 (84.6%)* Consider whether you can have a longer and more fulfilling career as a hospitalist or as hem-onc. Both cards and hem/onc are saturated fields, neither is virgin land. GI is a saturated field clinically but research is more "virgin" compared to the other two.
