The G30 Gen4 and Gen3 G30S have established a solid record of reliability. Some Gen3 G30SF pistols in early-year production runs exhibited a problem of failure to return to battery (FTRTB). Insufficient clearance between the slide and upper projection of the trigger bar (cam that contacts the firing pin safety) was thought to be one cause of FTRTB.
But this was not yet a G30S. The G30SF frame assembly Slide Stop Lever is designed to work with a Slide that is 1.12 inches wide and that does not properly engage the 1.00-inch wide G36 Slide. The G36 SSL does not fit the G30SF frame. I like the Gen4 grip frame better, but as you know the G30S uses the same size frame, just in Gen3 SF form instead of Gen4. Before I bought my G30sf I too was looking at some of the compact 1911. Bottom line it is hard to beat the mag capacity (10+1), light weight in this small of a package anywhere. The holster makes all the difference in the world. I carry my G30sf with an IWB holster made by Eric at Barber Leatherworks.
