We just spent a week there with North Swells and south/se winds. Most places were fairly churned up so viz was bad all week. The most favorable conditions were Francis to Maho, and Leinster to Anaberg. Pelican rock was also pretty calm, but winds much more southerly next few days, with some good gusts today.They are a band, but they will "break it up" to suit your needs. You can go all week and never loose sight of land but sail for 3-4 hours a day and spend the morning or afternoon at a different mooring on a different island. With the USVI there are 3 main islands. To stay 15 days on St John would be my choice. 2/3rds of the island is National Park and with 33 bays and numerous hiking trails to explore you will not run out 8f things to do. August you will have very calm seas is no storms are in region (get travel insurance this is hurricane season and villas will not refund you).

Drones can take amazing footage and capture the big picture stills or land video could never convey. I appreciate when rental owners and resorts include drone footage on their sites. Drones over public areas doing aerial photography don't bother me all that much, if they keep to respectful heights and distances.
