The seed that produce these essences are usually named the same e.g. nether seeds make nether essence. To progress in the mod you basically only need more and more inferium essence (which you can get from either a mob farm or from inferium seeds of any tier) and a some prosperity shards, to make the seeds and the infusion crystal.

Tier 1 drops a single essence on harvest, higher tiers drop more. In general not particularly efficient use of resources, better to just make more T1's. Other than that they grow rather slowly. If you have tiny progressions in your pack, growth crystals should speed up growth quite well. Try it for longer, those crops take a while to grow if not sped up. Shouldn't take longer then 2mins though.
