It's a modest pond, but the setting is remarkable. Craggy peaks ring this pool, found along the way to one of the state's most popular alpine lake -- Snow Lake. The trail departs from the north end of the main parking lot of the Alpental Ski Area, which on any given Saturday or Sunday will fill to capacity. At one end, you see into the core and the other, Earl Lake and a rarely-seen or visited Coney Lake. We turned around at 2:30, back to Prussik Pass, where the 400ft scree ascent was a suffer fest. Made our way back to Viviane by 4pm, Snow spillway by 6:15pm and Nada just before dark.
